CURRENT THREAT SCENARIO
Industry analysts project there will be 50 billion IP connected devices in the world by 2020, driven by the rapidly growing adoption of personal devices like iPads, iPhones, Blackberries and Android-based devices and the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) phenomenon. Workforce size and mobility make it nearly impossible to accurately manage all of the hardware and software assets within an enterprise organization. Most IT departments don’t have an accurate picture of how many devices are connected to their infrastructure, how many licenses they own and how many of those licenses are actually being used. According to Gartner, the emergence of consumerization was one of the top pain points for IT administrators in 2010. In fact, customers cited consumerization as the second biggest challenge they faced last year. As employees continue to bring their own devices to work, it is critical for IT to be aware of these devices and ensure that they are being accounted for within the network. In addition, Forrester estimates that up 33% of a given organization’s assets are unaccounted for. For large enterprises, this can result in thousands of unknown devices. It is also frightening given the value of these devices – Forrester also estimates that IT assets account for 50% of the total enterprise asset base and 80% of capital expenditure. Unaccountability for hundreds of thousands and potentially millions of dollars in assets is not something any IT department wants to face, especially when faced with an audit and an average penalty of $30,000 per unauthorized license.
WHAT DOES THIS TECHNOLOGY DO?
LANDesk Management Suite is a complete PC and mobile device management solution that enables IT staff to manage, update, protect and control all software and hardware assets–regardless of location–from a single console. IT administrators get all the control they need—no matter how big or diverse their environments. Administrators can discover devices in their network and store information about its numerous components in a central database. That information helps IT optimize all systems under one umbrella, and combined with impressive reporting features, helps them be thoroughly prepared for audits.LANDesk Management Suite works by combining several powerful tools. LANDesk Inventory Manager monitors and maintains all hardware and software assets in real time. LANDesk System Manager performs hardware and software performance monitoring and extends systems management while simplifying troubleshooting. LANDesk Server Manager monitors server performance in real time; distributes software, updates and tools; recovers crashed IPMI-enabled machines and creates customer alerts. To address the increasing trend of consumerization in the enterprise, LANDesk introduced Mobility Management as part of the latest version of LANDesk Management Suite in October 2010. LANDesk Mobility Management enables the discovery of devices at the point where users access and consume corporate data and gives IT administrators the power to remove data from a single device or from multiple devices, in the case of a security breach. The combination of these tools in one easy-to-use, seamless user interface makes LANDesk Management Suite unique and gives IT administrators everything they need to properly manage increasingly complex environments.
The Gartner Magic Quadrant for PC Configuration Life Cycle Management Tools (January 2011) ranked LANDesk Management Suite in its “Leader” category. In order to be named a Leader, vendors had to be successful in at least some or all of the following areas: attention to future client demands in PCCLM, consistently positive client feedback concerning the efficacy of their products, continued visibility and success in an increasingly crowded and competitive market, substantial market share, superior track records for market responsiveness and customer service. Gartner believes vendors in the Leaders quadrant have unique characteristics that position them favorably for future market success. In addition, Network World recently named LANDesk Management Suite as its Clear Choice winner in a November 2010 comparison of six PC Lifecycle Management vendors. According to the author of the review, Frank Ohlhorst, LANDesk was the Clear Choice winner because of its sophisticated, well-integrated feature set and its excellent management tools.
Simple, homogeneous IT environments are a thing of the past. With mergers, outsourcing, internal contractors, remote workers, and an increasingly mobile workforce, IT administrators need intelligent, integrated control over the systems and devices throughout their enterprise. LANDesk Management Suite makes it easy to do just that. LANDesk Management Suite enables IT administrators to automate and manage all hardware assets, comply with software licenses, decrease energy consumption, assess server health, and more—all from a single, intuitive interface.
